EXPRESS ENTRY

The Express Entry Program has been in place since January 2015. The program includes three Federal Economic Programs;

1. the Federal Skilled Worker,

2. the Federal Skilled Trade Program and

3. the Canadian Experience Class.

The first step is to determine under which of the following three categories you qualify:

Federal Skilled Workers
A candidate under this category must have one year of continuous full time work experience in a skilled work occupation NOC TEER 1, 2 or 3 within the last 10 years prior to submitting the application.   In addition to this requirement the candidate needs to accumulate at least 67 points of 100, based on the following six selection factors:

– Education
– Work Experience
– Language ability
– Age
– Adaptability
– Job Offer (if any)

Canadian Experience Class

Minimum requirements:
– You must have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada.
– Have gained your experience in Canada with the proper authorization.
– You meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing and listening)

Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (for example, on a co-op work term ) does not count.

 

Federal Skilled Trade Program
To be eligible, you must:

• Plan to live outside the province of Quebec (Note: The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers. If you plan on living in Quebec, see Quebec-selected skilled workers for more information),

• Meet the required levels for English or French for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing and listening),

• Have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the five years before you apply,

• Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for needing a certificate of qualification, and

• Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
